Board of Directors
The KRFC Board makes policy for the station to help further define our by–laws and clarify how we work together. KRFC’s Board of Directors also ensures the station lives up to its mission, adheres to FCC regulations and meets the legal requirements of a 501(c)3 non-profit organization. Board responsibilities include:
- Setting direction and policy for the station
- Station budget
- Station goals
Board of Directors Nomination Process
In accordance with KRFC by–laws, KRFC board members serve three–year, staggered terms. Every year three members of the board are either up for re-election or may be replaced at an election held during the Annual Meeting. A nominating committee is formed prior to the Annual Meeting to prepare a slate of candidates. The nominating committee consists of two board members, two randomly selected staff members, two randomly selected volunteers, and three randomly selected members who are not volunteers. The committee seeks nominations from the community, reviews applications (pdf) and interviews candidates. The nominating committee selects a slate of candidates and presents the slate to the Board of Directors for approval. Once the slate is approved by the Board, the membership is notified of the upcoming election at the KRFC Annual Meeting. Members may vote by absentee ballot or in person at the Annual Meeting. Members who do not choose to participate in the elections are considered votes in support of the slate of candidates. If a minimum of 25% of the total membership vote to disapprove the slate, then the slate is rejected by the members. The nominating committee would then be charged with presenting a new group of proposed Directors for election by the Board of Directors and approval by the members.
