Michael’s main instruments of choice to accompany his rich bass voice include the acoustic guitar and mandolin–although he has been seen with electric guitars, lap steel guitar, the sitar, hammered dulcimer and electric mandolin. Aside from performing as a solo artist, you can catch Michael on stage with his Folkadelic Rock band The Holler!”

Through the support of our listeners and volunteers, KRFC was able to pass on $1383 raised through benefit concerts to our friends at Larimer Humane Society for their High Park Fire relief work!

The Vi Wickam Trio is Vi on Fiddle and Vocals, Brent Hawley on Guitar and Mandolin and Jim Abraham on Electric Bass.

Vi  writes,  “Music is in my blood. Every note I play is nourishment.

I came from a musical family; some of my ancestors even have a claim to fame. My Great Grandpa Joseph Wickam was a professional violinist, published composer and teacher. He used popular music of the day to keep the kids interested and inspired. My Great X 3 Uncle George R. Poulton wrote the music to Aura Lea. It’s the melody of Elvis’s Love Me Tender and of Army Blue, still sung at the U.S. Military Academy at West Point.

I’ve been performing and writing music since before I could read. I began studying composition and arranging in Junior High. Along with my brothers and my dad, The Wickam Family Band even performed regularly on Blinky’s Fun Club, a nationally syndicated TV program shown in 23 states.

My fiddle playing can be heard on a half dozen CD recordings, including two of my own. I’ve played with many different bands throughout the United States, and even briefly in England. I’ve won the Colorado State Championship twice, and been a finalist four times at the Grand Masters’ Fiddler Championship. I’ve also directed the Indiana State Fiddle Contest for the past three years.

My musical tastes span bluegrass to classical to jazz, rock and old-time fiddle. I play guitar, mandolin, bass, and viola, but my main instrument is the fiddle. Regardless of the style of music I am playing, or the instrument, the music is in me, and I am thoroughly in the music.”

“MPress recording artist Seth Glier will grab you…if not with his powerful falsetto or his melodic prowess, then with what Performer Magazine calls his “intoxicating groove.” The 22-year-old singer, pianist and guitarist – who abandoned studies at The Berklee College of Music after one year because he “decided I should be playing for people and not for grades” – aims straight for the gut & has quickly established himself on the national scene performing over 250 shows a year.

In 2010, Glier shared stages with such diverse artists as James Taylor, Mark Knopfler, The Verve Pipe, and Edwin McCain. He has appeared as a mainstage artist at the Falcon Ridge Folk Festival (NY) and the Kerrville Folk Festival (TX). USA Today recently compared Seth to Bruce Springsteen and Billy Joel and recommended his track “Lauralee” on their “Listen Up Playlist” (Feb 2011).

The only musical member of his family, Seth was raised on the music of Joni Mitchell, Martin Sexton and Randy Newman, but considers his brother to be his greatest influence. “My brother is autistic and non-verbal. I learned to communicate with words better once I realized how to communicate to someone without them.” Maybe the term ‘old soul’ has meaning after all…”

KRFC will be holding the 27th Annual Resolution Run on December 31st on the CSU campus. The 5K evening race is a celebration of New Year’s Eve with all proceeds benefiting KRFC 88.9FM, The Soundtrack for Northern Colorado. With more than 400 participants every year, this race is designed to be both a competitive run and a family event with prizes for best costume, and awards to finishers.
