Join KRFC at Bark & Bluegrass on Saturday 8/25

In support of the Larimer Humane Society, this one-of-a-kind gathering will feature the banjo belting sounds of the Emmitt-Nershi Band, Bluegrass Delta Force, Constitution, Liz Barnez & Cary Morin Duo, and Turn 4.

Stop by our tent and catch up with our crew of music-loving volunteers! We’d love to hook you up with KRFC gear, get your membership up to date, and talk about everything KRFC has going on this Fall.

Tasty treats and luscious libations will be available for both you and your pup; Odell’s Brewing Company will even be donating a portion of their profits to the Larimer Humane Society so be sure to drink up for the cause!

Don’t miss Umami Eats (ooh.mah.mi), Shields Family Cotton Candy, and others who will be featuring provisions for all taste buds.

For only $10 a ticket ($15 the day of the event, children under 10 and dogs are free), four-legged friends and their bipedal comrades can join in all the fun. Grab a leash and come out for a day of education, awareness, and entertainment for the whole community.

Welcome KRFC’s New Board Members

In addition to our Executive Director’s favorable State-of-the-Station address, members attending KRFC’s 2011 Annual Meeting met and affirmed four new directors to sit on our board beginning January 2012.

Allow us to introduce you to the new volunteers working at the board level to create great radio that is local, non-commercial, and volunteer powered.

LIZ BARNEZ

Liz Barnez is a KRFC Live@Lunch favorite and we loved having her back in the green studio! Joining her are bassist Marty Rein, guitarist/vocalist Cary Morin (Atoll, Pura Fe) and percussionist Steve Amedee (Subdudes).

“Music runs deep in the tradition of New Orleans. That’s why it’s no surprise that singer/songwriter Liz Barnez  has music coursing through her veins. She was, in her childhood and continues to be, inspired by the rich street sounds of the French Quarter; including jazz, blues, folk, gospel, R&B, Dixieland, funk and parade music. As the youngest of six kids, Liz  was strongly influenced by the variety of music that was played around the house; including Big Band and Swing Music, Show Tunes… , Bob Dylan, James Taylor, Barbra Streisand, Hank Williams, Carol King, Aretha Franklin, Judy Garland, Led Zepplin, Heart, and Liz’s musical hero Joni Mitchell. Liz  has embraced her musically diverse upbringing and the artistically diverse heritage of her birthplace and transformed it into her own eclectic style of music. It was while attending the University of New Orleans and singing in one of the various cover bands Barnez performed in that she met drummer Steve Amedee. Amedee was also a member of the newly – formed band, the Subdudes, who became Barnez’s first introduction to the local original music scene. The group encouraged Barnez  to continue to write songs and to pursue an original music career. When the Subdudes moved to Colorado  – finding a very supportive music scene in which to develop their sound – Barnez followed shortly afterward.”
