Liz Barnez is a KRFC Live@Lunch favorite and we loved having her back in the green studio! Joining her are bassist Marty Rein, guitarist/vocalist Cary Morin (Atoll, Pura Fe) and percussionist Steve Amedee (Subdudes).
“Music runs deep in the tradition of New Orleans. That’s why it’s no surprise that singer/songwriter Liz Barnez has music coursing through her veins. She was, in her childhood and continues to be, inspired by the rich street sounds of the French Quarter; including jazz, blues, folk, gospel, R&B, Dixieland, funk and parade music. As the youngest of six kids, Liz was strongly influenced by the variety of music that was played around the house; including Big Band and Swing Music, Show Tunes… , Bob Dylan, James Taylor, Barbra Streisand, Hank Williams, Carol King, Aretha Franklin, Judy Garland, Led Zepplin, Heart, and Liz’s musical hero Joni Mitchell. Liz has embraced her musically diverse upbringing and the artistically diverse heritage of her birthplace and transformed it into her own eclectic style of music. It was while attending the University of New Orleans and singing in one of the various cover bands Barnez performed in that she met drummer Steve Amedee. Amedee was also a member of the newly – formed band, the Subdudes, who became Barnez’s first introduction to the local original music scene. The group encouraged Barnez to continue to write songs and to pursue an original music career. When the Subdudes moved to Colorado – finding a very supportive music scene in which to develop their sound – Barnez followed shortly afterward.”
