Live @ Lunch
Live @ Lunch is a daily showcase of live music. The show airs weekdays from noon to 1:00 and features local and touring musicians from diverse musical styles. Live @ Lunch is 100% LIVE and contains no pre–recorded interviews and no second takes!
The show is hosted by a KRFC volunteer. The host introduces the artist/group and controls the flow of the show. There is a combination of live music and chit–chat between the host and artist/group. A few CD tracks may be played, but the focus is on the live, in-studio performance. The exact mix of these elements depends on the artist/group and host. Audio engineering is also done by a KRFC volunteer.
In early 2009, Live @ Lunch began podcasting one show per week. Now you can listen to Live @ Lunch anytime you want! Vist our podcast page to subcribe.
Volunteer for Live @ Lunch
Live @ Lunch is produced by KRFC volunteers. There are four Live @ Lunch sub committees – Hosts, Outreach, Tech/engineering and Office Support. The whole group meets the last Wednesday of the month at the station. Sub Committees meet as needed. Operational decisions are made in the whole group with recommendations from the committees.
Volunteer hosts and techs are trained through a mentoring program with existing volunteers. If you are interested in volunteering for Live @ Lunch, contact our Volunteer Coordinator at the station.
How can I get on Live@Lunch?
Fill out and submit the Artist/Group Information Form. http://www.krfcfm.org/programming/live-at-lunch/artist-group-information-form/ Please fill in the info completely, any missing info could delay us even being able to review your submission. Include direct links to music videos, live videos (amateur quality videos are ok), sound samples or anything else you have out there that you think is representative of what you would bring to the show.
How are the groups scheduled?
Groups are scheduled by the Live @ Lunch Booking Team. Due to a large volume of submissions and a small booking team, we may not respond if we are not able to accommodate your request for some reason. This is no reflection on how awesome we think you are. If you have limited schedule availability, please apply early! What kind of music does Live@Lunch feature?
Live @ Lunch features a very wide range of musical styles. The focus is on LIVE instrumentation and vocals. Performers using computers, music samples, drum machines, pre-recorded loops, or any other form of pre-recorded music in order to replace live performers may be rejected or asked to remove those aspects in order to play the show. We are not interested in booking performers where these aspects are central to the performance. With that being said, a group may have a DJ in the band or use minor pre-recorded pieces to enhance the sound as long as it is not intended to replace other performers. If you have a question about this policy please contact us. email – email@example.com
What is the “flow” of the show?
The show airs weekdays from noon to 1:00p and features local and touring musicians from diverse musical styles. Live @ Lunch is 100% LIVE and contains no pre–recorded interviews and no second takes! We do however occasionally re-broadcast a previous live show from our archives. The host/volunteer introduces the artist/group and controls the flow of the show. Every artist/group needs at least 40 mins of quality original material to perform, the other 20 minutes of the show consists of short interview segments between songs. 1 or 2 CD tracks may be played, but the focus must stay on the live, in-studio performance. The exact mix of these elements depends on the artist/group and host. Audio engineering/mixing is also done by a volunteer.
What are the production facilities like?
The studio for Live @ Lunch is 11’x17’ total; usable space for musicians is 10.5’x11’ plus a little room to the side of the host’s desk. The size of group depends on the size of the instruments/amps. A five–piece band with drums is very cozy (and loud) in the studio. There is a 16-channel snake which leads to a mixer in the adjacent control room. The program is mixed, broadcast, and recorded 100% live! For a list of our equipment, see our Live @ Lunch Technical Information. http://www.krfcfm.org/programming/live-at-lunch/live-at-lunch-technical-information/
Where is KRFC and When do we need to be there?
Our address is 619 S. College #4 Fort Collins, CO 80524. Groups and solo artists should arrive at the studio at 10:45a. Groups with four or more people, or complex sound requirements are advised to arrive at 10:30. The time required for your group will be determined when the group is scheduled. Sound check should ideally be done by 11:30a leaving time to discuss station policies and FCC regulations about what can and cannot be said live on-the-air.
When can I make a repeat appearance?
It is possible to only play Live@Lunch once every six months.
Do the artists get a copy of the show? Are the shows available to download? Do you podcast?
Yes! We encourage artists to bring a flash drive with at least 1GB of free space to walk out with a high quality Wav file of the show. We began podcasting 1 show per week in early 2009. To download select shows or subscribe to our podcast, visit the KRFC podcast page. At the moment, we are only able to make 1 show available per week. Podcasts are not made available by request.
