Community at Work is a weekly public affairs program that provides a closer look at the public agencies that serve Larimer County residents. This half-hour show offers insights into the issues affecting our community and highlights some of the programs and services provided by local agencies and organizations. There are three rotating hosts: Health District of Northern Larimer County, Larimer County League of Women Voters, and Deni LaRue, radio host and former Larimer County public information manager.

Richard is a longtime Health District Communications Director and programmer.

Deni LaRue

Deni has always believed it is all about the listener, “Everything a DJ does on the air is for the listener, with moments of self-indulgent musical joy of course!” Fun fact: Deni was the first DJ on KRFC 88.9 FM Radio Fort Collins’ airwaves on Saturday, March 1, 2003! Deni has had two careers. She worked at three northern Colorado radio stations over a 21 year period. During that period she earned an M.S. degree in Technical Communication and began her second career as Public Information Director for Larimer County Government. She was also involved in local cable T.V. Her radio career began as a late-night free-form rock ‘n roll DJ and eventually she settled into broadcast journalism winning Local, State and National awards. She has been ‘on the air’ in northern Colorado for over 35 years.

Deni loves her community, radio, KRFC 88.9 FM Radio Fort Collins in particular, and of course Big Steve! (her husband). You can catch her on Mondays NoCo Flow 10am-Noon; Locally Sourced Mondays 12-1 pm; NoCo Flow Breakfast Blend 2nd and 4th Saturdays 8 am-10 am; and, Community at Work Public Affairs 1st Thursday of the Month at 6 pm. She also hosts Live@Lunch about once a month.

Deni is part of the 10-piece Sunny Side Singers…bringing song & music to senior living centers in Northern Colorado.

Betsey Perna

Betsy Perna got her start in radio sometime back in the early ’90s, as she worked professionally at KCSU 90.5 FM—all while she took about 10 years to complete some degrees!! At some point during a school board or city council meeting, the news bug bites hard; and she’s still rolling with it at KRFC!! For her, volunteering in community radio is a passion! As well, after retiring from Thompson School District, she hasn’t lost the bug for teaching either. Only, these days it’s all about being a naturalist for Larimer County and the City of Fort Collins Natural Areas. As well, she teaches yoga and fitness classes, part-time.

Natalie Shrewsbury

Natalie is the host of both KRFC’s World Fusion show, and the public affairs show Community at Work. Hosting the world fusion show excites her as this genre is full of energy, culture, diversity and reveals many surprises. Natalie’s Community at Work programs often focus upon natural resource issues and the agencies that address these. Most of all she enjoys delving into meaningful topics that impact us and talking with folks who are truly making a difference in our communities.

Aside from hosting and preparing shows for KRFC and KGNU, she’s often found patrolling the wilderness areas with the Poudre Wilderness Volunteers, leading wildflower hikes for Larimer County, paddling the local lakes, adventuring with her partner, and chasing chickens, bees, and a vibrant cat.
